From one seat on a Norton to 35,000 a year
Almost sixty years of seat making, from a workshop in Connecticut to the factory in Hollister.
- 1960s
Mike Corbin, an electrician in Connecticut, reshapes the seat of his 1964 Norton Atlas. At a rally he sells it for 40 dollars, and friends soon ask for one too.
- 1968
Mike rents a workshop in East Hartford, Connecticut, and starts making seats full-time as Corbin Manufacturing.
- 1973
Corbin also builds electric motorcycles, and one of them is the first electric motorcycle to top 100 mph (160 km/h).
- 1974
On the Bonneville Salt Flats the Quicksilver sets a speed record of more than 165 mph (266 km/h), which stands for 38 years. That same year Corbin moves into a former woollen mill in Somersville, Connecticut.
- 1982
Mike designs the Gunfighter: a solo seat that follows the lines of fender and bike. Sales soar and it becomes Corbin’s best-known design.
- 1989
Corbin opens a new factory in Castroville, California.
- 1990s
Corbin moves to Hollister, California: today’s headquarters with factory and showroom.
- 2000
Mike is inducted into three halls of fame, including the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
- 2025
With 80 employees, Corbin makes around 35,000 seats a year. More than 1.5 million have been sold in total. The company is still owned by Mike.
- 2026
Saddle Company in ’s-Heerenberg becomes the official Corbin dealer for the Netherlands.

What you're buying
A Corbin seat is not a mass-produced item rolling off an assembly line somewhere. Corbin seats are handcrafted in Hollister, California by craftsmen who have been doing this for decades. The foundation is a Fibertech base plate. On top of that, the foam is profiled to shape. Then the leather, vinyl or Alcantara is pulled tight and the seams are hand-stitched. Every seat goes through multiple checks before it leaves the workshop.
That takes time. A lot of time. And above all: craftsmanship you don't learn over a weekend. You notice it with every kilometre — literally, because after 500 kilometres you're still sitting comfortably.
One price, all options
This keeps things wonderfully simple as far as we're concerned: with us you pay the same price for every material configuration.
Whether you follow Corbin's recommendation (leather on top, vinyl on the sides) or go all-leather or Alcantara — the price stays the same.
No surprises. No premium for "that one colour you wanted anyway". Just choose what you genuinely like and what suits your motorcycle. The exception proves the rule: if you want your own embroidery or stingray, there is an extra charge. But that is where it ends.
